The charitable arm of Stater Bros. Markets of San Bernardino, Stater Bros. Charities, presented the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County and the Inland Empire with a $20,000 donation last month. With their donation, Stater Bros. Charities will be able to fund the wishes of four local children.

“In honor of Stater Bros. Supermarkets 75th Anniversary, Stater Bros. Charities’ focus for 2011 has been to help children-in-need,” said Sarah Cain, executive director of Stater Bros. Charities. “The Make-A-Wish Foundation was just a perfect fit and hopefully we’ve been able to bring a little bit of holiday joy to the kids helped by this great organization, as well.”

Cain joined board members from Stater Bros. to present the check at Make-A-Wish’s Holiday Open House in Riverside on Nov. 17. Stater Bros. was in turn presented with four plaques featuring a picture and a wish from each of the children whose wish Stater Bros. has adopted. Cain and the others also had the opportunity to meet and connect with two of the children and their families.

15-year-old Devine has a rare medical condition that causes tumors in his respiratory track. He wished for an electronics shopping spree. With money and a list of things he wanted, Devine went gadget shopping.

The other wishes adopted by Stater Bros. were for 17-year-old Brendan, 17-year-old Donald, and 6-year-old Jade who all suffer from leukemia. Brendan wished to visit Toronto, Canada to see Niagara Falls and the Hockey Hall of Fame. Donald wished to have restored the 1965 Mustang his father had bought to fix-up with him before he got sick. Jade and her family were flown to Florida to see the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.

“Stater Bros. clearly defines what it means to be a community partner,” said Stephanie McCormick, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish. “They have reached out and touched the lives of not just four children, but their families and the community, as well. We are grateful for their generosity and support.”
